Its always interesting to unveil the vanity of famous women, and try to determine what they really looked like over 100 years ago, as they hired artists to do their promotional illustrations for plays, or photographs for other purposes such as adding images to the public media of the time, newspapers, magazines etc.
Alphonse Mucha was one of those people who created many illustrations for her, she was his patron, and the flattering facial features of Sarah B. did vary, as she either accepted the Art Nouveau style Mucha lithograph about her or not.
This has given an impression of her which does not really match her personality, as has been documented. She was a vibrant strong willed woman, very involved in her own marketing presence in Europe and the USA.
This is based on images over a hundred years old, with the copyrights no longer valid.
So beautiful and elegant! All the pictures are wonderful but my favorite is #3 where she is literally dripping with pearls, crown on her head but, yet, still peering into the jewelry box as if hoping for more.....gotta love her!
Watchsearcher, I find her very charismatic in the photographs, one of those people that leave a deep impression.
An "Empress of India" pose. Mucha did many pictures of her - He's a favourite of mine right now.
Mine too Gillian, I discovered him last year, and Paul Berthon, I bought a book about the 2 of them, with several illustrations. Thanks for the comment.
