I bought this last week on EBay which I don’t often do. And when I have recently, it’s been disastrous!

It is marked Sterling on the back of one of the bells. No other mark. Measures about 14-7/8” and weighs 26 grams. I call them bells but maybe they have another name...are linked together.

I knew it had some “patina” when I ordered it. LOL...it was pretty nasty. Then as I started cleaning, noticed it had corrosion on some of the bells towards the back. Was so disappointed and thought how could that be on sterling? Then got on the Internet and did some reading as to how that can happen and what to do. Ammonia...I don’t have that at my house. But my husband is a car geek. He had metal polish for corrosion removal so I tried a tiny bit with a Q-Tip. It disappeared and restored the finish. I was amazed!

I believe I saw a costume Trifari necklace that looked similar in design to this a yr or so ago. I don’t think it was sterling. My necklace has no other mark on it, so I’m clueless as to who made it. Does it appear to be late 20’s to early 30’s to ya’ll as I’m thinking or am I off base?

As always, your comments are always appreciated.

valentino97 thank you for your comment. I had wondered about the clasp as well, as I know earlier they used many spring and barrel clasps. Then I read a few places where come companies were using fold-over clasps on chokers in the early 30’s. But they didn’t mention who the manufacturer’s were! Are you aware of any manufacturer’s who did that? I don’t have a huge library on costume jewelry, so may have to pull out the books once I get yard work done today. I’ve been trying to track down something similar to it and have come up with nothing. The piece I found earlier that I thought was the same in Trifari was actually a Napier bracelet from the 40’s that looked nothing like it upon closer inspection. I shouldn’t research things at 1:00 am...my eyes are shot...LOL.

Thank you again for your input. I’m going to start on the 1940’s and see if I can find anything similar...decade by decade!

Thank you to valentino97 for her comment on my Sterling Art Deco choker! It appears I may be researching the wrong decade. And thank you all for taking the time to stop by to take a look!
