It's 9 1/2" tall and 2 3/8" diameter base. Are the numbers on the bottom 9 12 51, the manufacturing date of
Sept 12, 1951? Also, what was in the bottle?
I found it when I was unloading some dirt, which I purchased from a paving company, for my flower garden. I thought it was an old Mountain Dew bottle!
Anyone have any ideas? I've never collected bottles.
The name is actually Duraglas not Durables so maybe that’s why you didn’t find info explaining the numbers on the bottom. There’s very good info explaining what each number indicates, but they are not read as a date...that would just make it too easy on us! But how I wish!
Owens-Illinois Glass Co. 1940-1964.
Most definitely an old soda bottle. Hard to say what was in it with no other marks on the bottle. I have several bottles in my collection with the same shape as yours.
The I in the O in a triangle is as fortapache says, it stands for the Owens Illinois Glass Co. The #9 represents the factory as being the one in Streeter, Ill (they had factories all over the country) the #51 is the date (1951) and the #12 is a mold number.
