Came across this cast iron pot today at an estate sale no markings unknown anything about it do you know about how old or who could have possibly made it ?? Thank you in advance for your knowledge and help.
Last one I had like this was many years ago. The three legs sat on a special propane fired burner. You got the pot hot and just dropped lead in to melt it. Then you dipped the lead out in either a one pound or two pound ladle and let it cool. Once cooled you just flip the ladle over and the lead fell out in a solid ingot. The ingots would be reheated in the ladle as needed with a torch to melt point then poured into a pipe joint to seal it. I swapped the burner for 20 pounds of venison steak and sausage, gave the pot away and still have the ladles.
Any ideal on the maker??? or year it was made.
No. Years ago you could buy them in the local hardware store when they were old fashioned hardware stores. Everybody stocked them and I don't recall ever seeing one with a brand name. They weren't something they put out on display, they were kept in a back store room or cellar. You just went in and asked for a melt pot and they would go get it. As for age, I wouldn't gamble on it being an antique unless it was never used. The bottoms and sides would burn out so you needed to replace them now and then. I see them now and then at the flea market painted black and maybe some design painted on them with flowers planted in them.
Erie made posts in this form in different sizes; tho' I think most are marked.. I have a #9 that is marked.

After further Research I believe this is a Erie Cast Iron Pre-Griswold Bulge Kettle. It has the same handle Loop, Time period around 1891. This one I have has no markings, there's had #9 ERIE.
