My mum rescued this Mickey Mouse doll from a rubbish bin & gave it to me. It appears to be in the 1930's style, however on googling Mickey dolls of the era the head design matches, but the body is rag doll like & nothing similar comes up. I'm wondering if this was maybe a "make-your-own" Mickey Mouse doll kit or something? I would love it if a Mickey expert has any clues what-so-ever about this doll. It is about 30cm in height.

My mum owned one pretty much identical! She cherished it and lovingly mended it every time he needed love. He was given to her by HER grandmother (Mum was born late 50s, unsure whether Mickey was new or handed down at the time). Mum passed him to me and I loved him too (although by that time he had two new faces patched over the top, and some interesting eyes embroidered on, one side only with eyelashes ???????????). I lost him at the Brisbane airport and was so distraught that when we went back to claim him he’d been given a cloth as a blanket and lovingly placed in a shoebox bed to show me he’d been looked after!! I now have little boys of my own and tried to give Mickey a good clean for them and that’s when disaster struck. I am a good sewer but he’s so patched and repatched (and restuffed with some scraps from my mums childhood clothing, made by her Grandmother) that I’ve been looking online to find pictures and or parts to help me restore Mickey! I don’t suppose you would consider selling your found treasure to save a much loved and never discarded brother of his?

I bought one of these dolls about 19 years ago and painted him, twice.
I don't know much about it either, except probably 1930's.
(I changed the colour of the pants and added the pictures on the shirts)

I have since found out that this Mickey is an Australian made Joy Toy brand. They manufactured this "steam boat Willy" version of Mickey in the 1930's. Obviously now they are rare & hard to find!

I recently found a very similar Mickey doll in a abandoned house about to be bulldozed.
