Antique Chinese Snuff Powder Box Container

Hi bought this large metal Asian box. about 10 inches long and 6 wide and high at a estate sale. . Has a Asian feel to it. Has a caked on white substance in it. Not sure if its old, new , reproduction or what it was used for, any help would be awesome
