This painting/print is signed and dated; however, I cannot read the print. I am most interested in what she is holding in her hand and what she is doing. This if from my Aunt's vintage collection. She liked to buy art work from the artist and this is signed. Painting/drawing is about 11 x 8 1/2 without the frame and matting. Frame done at American Art and Picture Frame Gallery, Brooklyn NY. I really like this and plan to keep it. It would be nice to know what it is. I will update when I am able to see the signature. There also is a note written at the bottom - 12/14.. Thanks.

He (or she) is holding a sword (upside down).
Your aunts bought a woodblock print.

Thank you mp. That will send me down another rabbit hole to research woodblock prints. My Aunt was a retired schoolteacher in Brooklyn - she liked to buy things from artistic people, so who knows where she got this. The signature appears to be handwritten in pencil. Considering your comments, it does seem to be a man of the Robin Hood sort. That changes things. Thanks, again!

Would be very useful to see the signature. 12/14 indicates that this is the 14th print from a run of only 14. A large sword! My take is a woman - a scarf around back of her head - a tail of the scarf is over her ear - a little like a babooshka (not her ear).

Hello Gillian - first, let me say - this is fun and interesting. I have tried to take photos of the bottom of the print - most is obscured by the matting. I am trying to take better photos of the bottom and, possible, open the back to shift the print.

Thanks for your take on the print. My thought that it is a fierce woman is why I wanted to keep it. I am working on the photos now.

I am still working on tje signature. Not sure I can see it fully without removing the frame. That is iffy. It was framed so many years ago the materials are melded together. I need young eyes to read the signature. Or a good camera.
