I found this nice painting a few weeks ago. I am wondering if anyone can make out the signature or if someone knows the artist? Pretty nice picture. Thanks for looking.

The Rococo revival frame and the style of the painting points to 2nd half of the 19th century, or 1900 as the signature tells. In Normandy, France strange headdresses were worn there at that time, so I'd look for painters there at that time.

Looks like Julea Meyer to me. Here's what I would do. There is a gal that's an excellent appraiser, for more than just paintings but she's very good and this is definitely worth having appraised, IMHO. Her name is Dr. Laura, you can find her on you tube and she does appraisals. The back is just as important as the front so send her pics of however many as you can of front and back. I think you found yourself a treasure here. Nice going. Let me know if you can't find her. Also, many frame companies know a lot about paintings too, so you may want to go to find some local ones and go to a couple of them and ask. They give their opinions for free

thanks everyone for your input! Shareurpassion, thank you for the advice and I will certainly look her up! Yes I see Julea Meyer as well. I wonder if that is the painter or the person in the painting??

BEAUTIFUL painting! that reddish tone of the wood on the back always makes me think 'Italian'.
