I was curious if anybody knew the history of this clock. I picked it up 30 years ago and just rediscovered it packed away. I have been researching on my own to no avail. Any input would be appreciated!

Years ago there were a number of people named Quimby that were clock makers in New England. The most noted one was Phineas Parkhurst Quimby. He was noted for his tower clock. You might have luck researching the history of Claremont, NH to find information regarding this item. Also I am sure they have a historical society that you could email for help.

Thank you! I will do that...

If you look at the bottom of the dial, under the minute marks it tells you this clock was Made in the United States of America by Wm L. Gilbert Clock Co. Winsted, Conn.
I will look in some of my books to see if I can identify the model.
The private label assigned to this clock, might take more research.

This is an alarm clock manufactured by the Gilbert Clock Company. The boxed "G" is their trademark and it also plainly says so around the bottom of the dial. They called this model their "Wake-Up Alarm". They are from circa 1891 - 1913. Yours most closely resembles the 1913 version.

As far as Quimby is concerned, I agree that you should research Claremont, NH to see what the connection is. Perhaps a retailer by that name? Try contacting the local library.

Hope that helps to partially solve your mystery.

      Regards,

      Bruce

I received this info from the historian in Claremont, NH so I am assuming this clock was made for Quimby Jewelers for them to sell:

Quimby & Quimby were jewelers here in Claremont in the 1900’s. They had a jewelry store here in town. Their jewelry story was the old fashioned jewelry store where the sold no only jewelry but also flatware, hollowware, china, and other items, including clocks and watches.

      Hi Dstarin52,

Thanks for sharing your antique alarm clock. To me, it looks to be in great shape for its age. It's obviously been in good hands. Also thank you for sharing the results of your research with us at Collectors Weekly!

When I mentioned you contacting those folks I was well aware you would get a reply but this was fast. Claremont is a quaint little mill town with great people. I spent a good deal of time there from the 70's thru the 90's.

As expressed by others, thank you for sharing the results of your research, that is a help to all here.
