I just found this antique high boy and was wondering if someone could help me identify the furniture maker based on the stamp (back of the dresser). All I can see is Dec something 1896, and the name ending with « HOVEN ». Thanks for your help!

Not sure on the maker, but the style/ wood is consistent with 1890s- 1920.

Date may not represent date of construction, it may be the Patent date on some innovation in the dresser. I'd do a patent search with the date of december 9, 1896 to see anything comes up and then look to see who the patent was assigned to or makers in the same or nearby location.

Also, I wouldn't refer to this as a "highboy". While it is a tall dresser, a highboy traditionally comes in two pieces.

      Good luck with your searches.
