Can anyone tell me about this? I know it's an oil bottle but I'm not sure if it's real or not. I tried to do some research but I'm having trouble finding anything. The top looks too shiny to me to be an antique but the lady who gave it to me insisted that it was. Any information would be appreciated!
I far from being an expert but did google antique oil bottles and found alot of them being sold on eBay but did not see any exactly like yours. It does appear to be from the same era as the ones I saw on eBay so I would say check for someone who deals in those types of antiques in your area and see what they can tell you about it. My untrained eye though says you may have something that is somewhat valuable though. The ones I saw on eBay were priced from about $12 to about $70 but again I'm not an expert and did not see any exactly like yours on there.
The spout is old and original. But the jar is just an average mason jar not an oil jar. The spout is not branded so the values aboyt $5-7 for the top. Back in the 1920's a brand new set of master MFG. oil bottles and carrier were about $4.50 compared to the $350-$500+ a very nice set sells for today. I actually have a bunch of these spouts on ball mason jars also, They were much cheaper for the service station owner but looked down upon come inspection time.
