This is a model of a 65 mercury parklane, my grandma gave it to me a long time ago. I believe she once told me she got it from a dealership when they bought the same car new. I was looking for some information on this model.
This is a AMT Promo kit. The dealers gave them away as promonitnal items to buyers and prospective buyers of new cars. They were nearly the same as the model kits sold in hobby shops and just about everywhere back in the 60's & 70's. The major diffrence in the promos were they were Factory assembled and molded in diffrent colors than the kits. The chassis of the promo usualy listed the cars features where the kit did not.
Very nice Promo model and Bill is right it was given away ror sold for usually about $1.00. Another difference with a promo compared to an actual model that have a one piece plastic body with no opening hood, doors or trunk which meant no engine either except what you see under the car. Mercury promo models are pretty rare as are any promo models from the 50's, 60's and 70's because they were just that, toys! The rare of the rare ones are convertibles in good shape because most of them had broken windshields from play. Your promo if in excellent shape could be worth about $150 to $200 depending on who is willing to play. Very cool one keep it nice.
