I think you made a typo here. It's Rookwood not Rockwood.
I didn't notice the typo. Yes it is Rookwood, thank you.
You can't tell in the picture, but the name is under the glaze. It is not something added later it was made on the tile.
Have you done any research on JohnD?
Yes, but I have never found anything that he put his name on. I haven't found anything Rookwood that any artist has put their name on. I have seen marks or initials but never a piece with a complete name. I was just curious if this is unusual because that would increase the value.

He was an important figure at Rookwood.
Yes, I do believe that it is a piece to something larger. I found a picture of a four piece tile that had a similar design on one of the tiles. I am curious to why he would have added his name.
