The other version of the red canteen from the 1970s. Do not run into these often in fact this one is the first I have found in the wild. I see the green canvas ones all the time. Back in the 1970s they had a red accessory phase in the Boy Scouts. It does photograph better due to the contrast and red and green are complimentary colors. The vinyl covers actually are better than canvas as canvas traps water which leads to rot although I don't think it would affect an aluminum canteen. That is why synthetics are used for holsters and sheaths.
An interesting point for this piece is that the belt hook is built into the canteen and not the case. Kind of makes the case useless.
The canteen holds a quart and a half which may be a bit heavy to hang on a belt. Note this comes with the original box. There are views of the box in the first three photos.
Next week is the red mess kit so stay tuned!
Nice Scout canteen. I think we discussed this square canteen previously. I don't remember any square ones in the 60's. I wonder if they even came in the green canvas.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. I do recall the conversation. Don't recall seeing a green canvas one.
Looks like I should have picked up that Camillus Boy Scout knife I saw today if I could have gotten it for $40ish.
Thank you
