I went to our local Antiques centre this morning, and This vase ,which attracted me last time I was there, was still there, so as the price was reasonable, I bought it (and the Winnie the Pooh bear for my new grandson!). I've done some research online and most thought's are that this is made by Edward Moore Glass, around 1880. It's sometimes called a Griffin Vase and sometimes Chained Swan.
Very pretty vase!
They had a vase like this on the Antiques Roadshow recently and Andy McConnell identified it as Sowerby " Chained Swan". It had the Sowerby peacock on the bottom.
That’s really interesting Nevb as looking online there was a lot of debate online as to whether Sowerby made this vase or Edward Moore, but the consensus was Edward Moore, because that’s what the V&A have it labelled as! I will have to catch up on my recorded Antiques roadshows and see if I can find it. Funnily enough, I picked up a bit of Sowerby glass yesterday with the peacock mark!
I'm thinking now it may have been a posy vase with the same design, my memory's not what it was.
