Hi! I recently bought this from an older man who said that it had belonged to his wife's grandmother. The wife had recently passed, and he told me that the Grandmother had lived in Philadelphia from what he knew. I'd love to know what era this little piece is from. It seems to be made of brass and the stone is probably Czech cut glass in pretty deep purple color.Could it have been made in Philadelphia as well? There aren't any marks that I can see. It has an early "C" clasp. Thank you for your help!
I totally believe the story the gentleman told you and his history of the brooch. A number of years ago one very similar except the stone in mine was square, was passed down to me. I am in my 70's and my brooch belonged to my great grandmother. I know she purchased oodles of jewelry around 1920 - 26 at two different stores in Manchester, Vermont. Being rural farm country many, many items for the stores came in on the train from Boston and Philly.
Thank you!
