    Hello everyone!!
While on vacation last week, I came across this vintage cast iron Boston Bull Terrier doorstop. It appears to have been repainted by a previous owner. I did give it a good washing as it was pretty dirty when I got it. I purchased it for $25 and was very happy to have him for such a cheap price. I'm not completely sure if Hubley, National Foundry or Albany Foundry made this one. It measures 9 1/2" tall and 9" long and is held together with two bolts.

Thanks to our CW friend "fhrjr2", we now know that this fella was made by the Albany Foundry. Thanks VERY much!!

Thanks for stopping in for a look!!!!

    Scott

He is beautiful with such a proud stance, looks as if he is waiting for his master to come home!

Not made by National. Dimensions are wrong and they only used a single bolt. I doubt Hubley but still doing a bit of research.

If you can get a small dental mirror and a flashlight, look around inside this stop for a maker or foundry mark. It would be quite common for the marking to be on the inside.

If this is Albany you will find one of a couple possibilities. You may see Albany Fdy Co. or you may see a 1, 2 or 3 digit number.

This from Hubley site: Hubley put its mark inside the hollow cavity without ruining the outside paint.

Thanks Jenni!! I own several of these, but most are solid color or black and white.

      fhrjr2,
Thanks so very much for the help. There is in fact a "Alb" on the inside of his right rear. The rest is severely rusted and unreadable.

Glad to be of help. I don't actively collect them anymore but have some old recall of markings and such. Some of them are marked where we least expect to find it.

      Thanks Eileen!!
I do love those names. This little doorstop would be from the 1920's. I doubt that this is original paint, but I'm going to leave him as is.

This one looks like mine with the open bottom!

This one is the reason I told you to look in the ears for the mark. The mark was there and proves it was made by Albany foundry.
    19. dixielong13, 5 years ago
Was it in the right or left ear? It appears the paint is cakes on and there might be something on the right ear but I can't tell for sure.
    20. dixielong13, 5 years ago
Oh I see, you said right ear.
    21. fhrjr2 fhrjr2, 5 years ago
Obviously you didn't read our comments as we sorted this one out. The markings on this one as stated above is in the right ear. Reading the comments on these posts will help you learn more than just looking at pictures.
