This is an axe head found under an old farmhouse. The words “Anchor” and “Plumb” are engraved on side of the axe. I would like to know what special purpose the axe was used for, and during what time period it was used.

You need to understand one thing. The age of the house has nothing to do with anything found in it or on the property. Plumb tool company wasn't even thought of yet in 1866. But they were in business until 1990 or 91. They had dozens of trademarks and logos including Anchor image and the Anchor name. The axe head you show is common and a multi purpose tool. With very little research on your part you will find it quickly. Good luck.
