This chair carried my grandfather's mother from Chicago, IL to Davenport, IA after the great Chicago fire of 1871. She sat upon it atop a wagon is the story. I believe it is called a Slipper Chair as it is low to the ground and left space for a woman's hooped skirts. I am guessing it is at least 150 years old. I fear I paid more to get it reupholstered than it is worth. Still, it is very comfortable and the perfect place to set yourself down to put on shoes and socks...and at one time in history....stockings and later pantyhose!
I am envious!!
