For lucky (?) showing #600 (!!!) we have here a "pre-distressed" (though still entirely complete) old light fixture, as retrieved from the storage closet and dusted off today for the pics. It's been languishing up there for probably the past 20yrs, after I recovered it from a soon-to-be-demolished house. (amongst other random detrius, including all my antique ceiling fan motors shown awhile back)
One of the main reasons it's stayed there is, quite practically, the SIZE of the crazy thing. Not too many places in a typical house one could really even put such a light ;-) as it is a full 3' across and hangs almost 4' down. Frankly I've always sorta imagined it might have first hung in a cafeteria/buffet restaurant dining room (don't they *all* have one or a dozen similar?) but truly have no idea where it came from nor exactly how old it is -- on that part I'll guess 1970's anyway, based on its wiring/etc. It is indeed made of 'antique' finished brass, the 'sphere' is roughly 10" across holding six 14" arms with faux-candle (standard size) light sockets, no doubt intended to hold 'flame-shaped' incandescent bulbs with or without additional 'clip on' shades.
ANYWAYS, with my recent bout of "carport decorating" ;-) I realized that I *could* (barely) actually hang it up out there, too...?? [plus, it needed to get moved offa the pile on top of my pinball machine, but that's another story for later] AND SO outta the closet it came, with the goal to tighten/unbend its arms, check/fix the wiring, clean it up (just a little, probably) and LIGHT THE SUCKER UP!! :-) :-)
We'll call these the 'before' pics...if it isn't obvious all the arms are now somewhat loose and prone to twisting one way or the other, several have also managed to get bent to some degree. First I think I'll just tighten them up so all their little 'ends' are pointing down again, then see what I think of the look of the 'bending' and whether I wanna try to straighten any, or just leave them secure but pointing in slightly random directions. Who knows, it might actually look kinda cool that way...maybe more interesting than if they were all symmetrical (and boring) again...?? <LOLOL>
Stay tuned, with luck (and if I don't get too distracted otherwise) maybe I'll have some "after" pics in another post before too long...? :-)

Yes buckethead, it *is* most definitely a "big" sucker. Even if out in the carport, I'll still havta hang it 'off center' towards the highest part of that ceiling (kinda in front of the Satellite Cafe sign I just showed last week) if I don't wanna risk hitting my head on it while walking underneath the d*mn thing. <lol> Thanks also for the quick comment/<love it>!! :-) :-) :-)

Today's update: I took the bottom of its 'sphere' off and re-tightened its arms, also inspecting the wiring and cleaning general grunge outta its sockets and adding a couple little bits of shrink tubing to its (slightly abraded) feed wires where they come out the top of its down tube. Gave it a superficial (as promised) cleaning mostly with just spray cleaner and paper towel, a little bit of steel wool to one or two of its arms that'd otherwise accumulated a few 'green corrosion' spots.
The next step (which I ran outta energy for, after otherwise unsuccessfully trying to get my mower to run this afternoon) is to hook it up to a temporary cord and screw some lightbulbs in to 'test' it (otherwise to confirm there are no still hidden 'shorts' in its wiring) then mount a box to my carport ceiling and figure out what I'm gonna wire it to from there...??
