While dropping off some donations to the thrift store I decided to walk through and take a gander around. In doing so I spotted and picked up this Allessi La Conica 3 cup Espresso Coffee Maker.
I don't know if there's a way to date when a particular one was manufactured, if you know a way please chime in.
What I've read and understand about this particular design is this:
"Designed between 1980 and 1983, this coffee maker was Rossi's first mass-produced design, and its strongly iconic image earned it immediate success for the then-new Officina Alessi brand, as well as becoming an 1980s design symbol.
Espresso coffee maker in 18/10 stainless steel with copper bottom.
Available in 2 Sizes:
3 Cup: 9.25" H X 3" Diameter; 5.25 oz
6 Cup: 11.25" H X 3.5" H; 10.5 oz
Current price as of this writing:
3 cup - $330USD
6 cup - $400USD
End quote.
Here in South Florida the thrift stores have espresso makers all the time. Usually well used, burnt etc.
The Allessi La Conica I picked up today. It's near pristine. It's very obvious it's never been used other than for a decoration as you can see from the pics.
There's just a slight patina on the copper where it meets the stainless steel I need to address.. a little polishing should remove it.
It's very heavy for the size. A nice addition to my collection.
