I absolutely love this over-designed ashtray and am especially proud if it as I've never seen anything like it. Ever.
I'm not sure if the barrel serves a purpose, but it's interesting that the top rectangle shape has a deep groove on all four sides. Any thoughts, anyone?
The maker's mark is stunning. Apologies for the glare on the photo but it says:
    (First line) GA/A/254
(Second and third lines) Produced in Great Britain by Mintons Ltd, Stoke-on-Trent
    (Forth line) Rgd. No 778941
To me, this is absolutely stunning and a real eye catcher for my collection.

Fantastic information, my friend. Yes, a box will fit on the rectangle and the case will slip down a few millimetres into the slot.
You've made my day. Thank you.

I haven't collected ashtrays in years but love seeing what others have. This was obviously not made for export because it doesn't meet tariff act markings. Probably worth more here than in the UK to a collector. Thanks for sharing it.
