This is my favorite piece of Coro. I love that it is angel fish. This piece was found at my favorite thrift, (the one that has closed). It is sterling and dates from 1944.
    Thanks for stopping by.

Beautiful Coro Duette, I am not familiar with the angel fish they are really gorgeous! It's nice you kept the pair together, I have lovebirds that either I or the seller detached & I couldn't figure out how to pin them together again :) Guess I would have had a hard time wearing them in the 40s lol

Eileen, That thrift was legendary here. It was my favorite thrift and probably will always be. It was well known that the donors also shopped at it and most of them came from the wealthiest zipcodes. This was reported in the newspaper. The charity supported interest free loans for college students. I think some of the management must have been retail execs because they had lots of new haute couture clothes and shoes that they also sold with the original labels and store tags still on them. (Ferragamo shoes and Chanel suits). The had fine and well as costume jewelry. I think the costume jewelry just flew under the radar. Their prices were considered high for a thrift, but the things they had there were amazing. I was so sorry to see that place close. It was fabulous.
Newfld & Mrstyndall, thanks for the appreciation. And to vetraio50 and fortapache thanks for the loves.

That's awesome! That, I believe is when Hector (oh shoot, I can't remember his last name right now) but I think that's when he worked there and his pieces are valuable! He set up his own shop in Mexico after that and All his pieces command high prices! Nice find! Is it Agular??? I can't remember darn it!

Hi Eileen, These clips are not marked, except sterling. However, only Coro put rhinestones into the jelly belly. Trifari never did that. Trifari also standardized the clip mechanism, while Coro made holders individually for each design. And Coro clips do not fit on Trifari's mechanism and vice versa. Lastly, Trifari filed the most patents of any company. They carefully guarded their designs and sued another company over design infringement. They never sued Coro. Trifari did make an angel fish design in the 1940s. Actually, they patented a design in 1941 ( patent 125,822). This was a single large fish with a large crystal for the body. So in a way Coro somewhat was following Trifari's lead, as this was patented in 1944. I think there was a mix up in the photos.

These are beautiful and I love their little open mouths signified by the blue stones- they are so highly detailed, like the long trailing fins- they look just like they are spurting through vast coral reefs or even vibrant green reeds in an aquarium,

LaurenRedmond, What a beautiful picture you paint. They are amazing to watch in an aquarium as they float around in a slow majestic manner. You wouldn't see them in the coral reefs, though, as they are fresh water fish. ( A bit of trivia, and I only know that as my husband used to raise them:))
