Who remembers how totally cool it was back in the 1970's (-ish) when the cash registers at any odd store started to get **electronic digital displays** on 'em, instead of any odd form of 'mechanical' readout?? ;-) Here's one such machine from that general era, which I rescued from a dumpster in the early 1980's or so.
It is an ULTRA model #705 (ser. #5614) made by RC ALLEN (whoever they were?) and remains in mostly complete condition though I doubt it is now actually functional. In addition to its nifty 'swooshy' then-modern shape/design, also note that it uses things called "NIXIE TUBES" for its digital display -- a unique form of electronic numeric display device that had been developed immediately before somebody else eventually came up with the now ubiquitous LED displays. Nowadays NIXIE tubes are often used to create 'retro' digital clocks/etc., where they are openly exposed for their own inherent 'coolness' factor... ;-) :-)

Pictured here as it currently resides 'in storage', nevermind all the other clutter in the background... ;-) :-) :-)
THANKS MUCH to Brunswick, iggy, fortapache, clockerman, & Newfld for stopping by and sharing the <love> for this funky old cash register! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
