I posted a similar figure a few months ago but this one is more complete. Plus the accessories are reversed in color. The last series figures in the Johnny West line had accessories in two different colors as opposed to the originals which were one color. For Jay West the colors were red and yellow. But half the figures would have a yellow vest and red pistol while the other half had a red vest with a yellow pistol and so on. So many collectors including this one have to have figures with both colors of accessories. Also this figure had two different torsos. The figure with the accessories is wearing the fringe shirt, has that sort of buckskin fringe around the chest and back. The other figure has the "pockets" shirt. Can be confusing as both torso have chest pockets. I call the pockets shirt the snap shirt as it looks like the classic western shirt with the pearl snaps. Not exactly period correct as the West family lives in the 1880s. The ten gallon hat is from the 1920s from the days of the silent westerns.
Not sure what is next, perhaps a Hot Wheels car or Mini-Plane.
Neat item, with good info as always. I didn't realize all of these variations of the West items. I love being versed on vintage toys. It's not always in the collecting books, it comes from collectors that actually owned the stuff in the old days. I consider you a Guru First Class on the several fields you are knowledgeable in. If we get to cast a vote for a Hot Wheel or Minu-Plane, I will go for the Mini-Plane. I really like the series, I don't think I ever saw them when they came out. Maybe they weren't distributed around here, we had just got paved roads in the early 70's.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. I think there are 9 variations of Jay west I can think of at the moment. There are actually a few more hard core experts than me. But then I used to talk with them on the telephone before the net. There was actually a way of buying and selling before the net. As I am more diverse in my collecting mu knowledge is more spread out.
Thank you very much Thomas. I have several mini-museums. There are a few I have yet to post.
Thank you
