Found these unusual identical Silver? footed goblets? Cups? vases? candleholders? etc.. today and was wondering of course what they were and also if anyone recognized the 2 marks that are stamped into the base and also the cup parts. They are quite ornate, measure 6 1/4" tall by 4 1/2" wide. They are completely decorated with scrolls, leaves, delicate flowers darts and the rims are completely beaded. If anyone recognizes them from their shapes or marks, I would appreciate any input. Thanks, RER

Thanks Vetraio50...are they silver marks and what would these items have been used for...goblets? age?
    4. vetraio50 vetraio50, 5 years ago
Pre 1923. The Empire failed in 1922. I’d go for coffee ... glass inserts.

      Check out Zarf Cups.

Wow Kevin! Thanks a lot! I looked it up in Google, saw the exact marks for the Ottoman Empire and for 900 silver and saw other examples albeit not exactly like mine. I wish I had found a pair of the ones shown in the appraisal on Youtube but I am pleased with my ZARFS . The one shown was tiny compared to these guys. As always, you are a wealth of information..thanks, BOB

That mark is called Tughra / Sultan`s calligraphy name, similar to Royal Cyphre in the West. The mark was used on silver since 1840 (approximately). More precise dating is not possible.

Abdulmejid I & Mehmed VI were the two Sultans during the period that IVAN49 mentions. Both have a different Tughra. I am wondering whether there are two versions used on silver, IVAN ????

Tallcakes! Thank you for the links. So they are most probably Spoon holders....it makes sense and the examples shown are very similar to mine. I am amazed at the possible age of them since they have lasted in excellent condition all these years. I noticed that there appears to be gilding inside of them. I suppose that it would be better not to clean them if I decide on selling them. Bob
