    Wife's Grandfathers piece....any ideas what it might be...he fought in WW 1 and WW 2 ..not sure if this is Army related because the top is loose..what would be carried in it....added 2nd picture...some kind of marking but I cant make any sense of it....

      I can’t imagine anything to do with the military being decorated in any fashion, and certainly not made so beautifully.
      Maybe he brought it home as a gift/souvenir from wherever he was stationed.
      Are there any ID markings on it?

      Maybe something similar to the Japanese 'Inro' ? But from another asian culture ? Looks sort of like one anyway...

      the Inro seems possible..Japan art seems more fancy..anybody have an idea to other cultures...
