Hi I got this recently while thrifting. Trying to identify it. I think it may be Native American but not sure. What are the materials, the age, the tribe, and did it come from Mexico or US? It measures 12” high by 13” wide.

Looks like coiled palm fiber. No Native American tribal basket makers use this combination of technique and material. It could be Mexican, Chinese, or from some place in Africa.

I haven't seen this particular type of basket before. The circular start on the bottom is frequently found on African baskets, and sometimes on Chinese baskets. The coiling technique and colors point to Mexico. On the other hand, it may have been made by a studio basket maker, or a crafter. All I can tell you for sure, is it's not Native American.
