To the left you see a painting from my collection. An allegory of Emperor of The Holy Roman Empire of German Nation Joseph II (1741-1790) renewing The Art Academy of Vienna 1786. Oil on canvas. 70 cm x 59 cm. Unsigned, so who's the artist ? A very possible solution to the mystery turned up in 2007 with a drawing, seen to the right, showing an allegory of count Ferdinand Bonaventura II von Harrach (1708-1778), signed in 1776 by Dominikus Kindermann (1739-1817). The count was his patron, so no wonder Kindermann wanted to pay tribute to him. The composition is, as you can see, very much the same in painting and drawing. Furthermore Kindermann was connected to the academy and exhibited with the other members. So what do you think ? Is the mystery solved ? If you have a better candidate, then don't hesitate to tell me !
