And my grandfather served in the army in division 3 And the 30th infantry during World War I and he was in the Marines during the 1920s and 30s serving in the Caribbean and other areas. Uncertain if this patch is this related to his army campaigns or was it related to the Marines I’ve seen these numbered patches before but I can’t find it on the Internet if anybody could provide any further information about it and greatly appreciate it have a good day

Shoulder strap for the 25th Bavarian Infantry Regiment. Field grey strap with white piping and chain stitched red number ‘25’. Above the strap is handwritten ‘25 Bav. Regt. / 14 BAV. DIV. / 31 Aug. 1918’.
Thank you for the tip, it lead to a more accurate internet search. I would hypothesize that this is a trophy my grandfather brought back from WW1. The US soldiers would take these shoulder boards, epaulettes from German prisoners. From a letter home, he and his buddies had charged a machine gun nest and had taken 5 German prisoners. From further research, this could be from the Somme offensive.
