Years ago Solingen steel was some of the finest made. During WWII it was almost totally bombed out. When things calmed down businesses rebuilt and along the way went to stainless steel. Your knife probably has more sentimental value than anything else. The Othello line is common and it takes a special knife to go beyond eating more than a big Mac and fries.
