This is a sample of my collection of Peloton glass, showing some of the variations. The pieces in this cabinet are all Victorian era I believe. As can be seen, there is a great diversity in terms of colour of threads & grounds, as well as shapes. Some items have the threads blended right in to the surface & others have much more texture, with the threads sitting proud of the surface.
I have been collecting Peloton glass since 1996.
Credited to a Bohemian origin, the decor was most likely made by a variety of manufacturers in Bohemia & elsewhere. It makes sense given the variations on the theme. English glasshouses in Stourbridge were supposed to have made their version of Peloton.
The link is that all Peloton items have applied threads. Broken threads, not long trails, or short, spotty spatter. Sometimes the threads have been blended in so much they have a soft, blurry appearance. Nonetheless, they are still identifiable as having an origin as short, applied threads, somewhat comparable to the sprinkles seen on cupcakes.
Many items were made with the Peloton decor - all manner of vases, rose bowls, baskets, epergnes, toothpick holders, drinking glasses, bowls, dishes, biscuit barrels, etc. Also fairy lamps, which I am keen to find an example of...
I also have some later items from the 20s - 30s era with the threads in bold primary colours, updating the sugary pastel tones popular in Victorian times.

I agree, racer, these are the ultimate in guilt free confections (well, I try not to think of the expense, but they're worth every penny...)

OMG what a great collection! You must have an example of just about every piece of Peloton in existence. Interesting write up too. Green with envy here....
