I would like to know if anyone can determine the age of this cross, if it is old or recent. It is a bit over an inch tall and is soft metal. I think that it was cast. I got it from a Russian antiques dealer who knew little on it.
This cross has much symbolism in it:
Elements of crosses like this may contain Joel 2:31 for the judgement or persecution, Psalm 68 for the victory and hope, and/or the following prayer to Jesus: We bow down before Thy Cross, O Master, and we worship Thy holy Resurrection. That He rose means we also can. This signifies escaping judgement, attaining forgiveness, and being remade.
It also has IC XC Nika for Jesus Conquers, which pairs with the Joel verse as He will come again in judgement. It also reflects the persecution of God's people as the Old Believers movement experienced.
While one of the pictures says that the bars refer to going to Heaven or not, they can also refer to the two criminals crucified with Jesus as one was penitent and one was blasphemous.
