Most likely painted by Frank Lafayette Hubbard (1887-1985) ??? Painting measures 10"X 8" and dates to 1950's . On the reverse is stamped "Glick & Triolo, Paints-Varnishes & Wallpaper, Artist & Sign Painter Supplies. 328 Main St., Hackensack, NJ. Phone: 342-1454." Company was in business from at least the early 1930's to 1973.

''Frank L Hubbard was born in Westchester County, New York on December 21, 1887 and passed away on April 1, 1985 in New York. He had a studio in Manhattan for many years and a home in Westchester County (Larchmont), New York." * [ Although one geneology site has him being born in Bellevue, Kentucky].

He was the older brother of artist William Harlan Hubbard (1900-1988). He was an artist, cartoonist and freelance illustrator . His most well known assignment was as illustrator for Popular Science's "Gus Wilson's Model Garage" feature, from January 1929 to December 1947.

He is listed in Davenports, Askart, Artfact and Findartinfo.

      Thank you for your input.

The canvas board is from the mid 1950's. Generally speaking the absence of the area code (201 in the case of Hackensack, NJ) would tend to place it pre-1964. Although, the 201 area code was first assigned in 1947.

Have seen a number of "Hubbard" /"Frank Hubbard" signatures on Ebay. Two with the Glick and Triolo stamp. Most appear to match this signature. In 1960 Frank Hubbard was 73-- not exactly Methuselah.

If anyone can produce definitive information about the artist. Would very much appreciate it.

My grandfather Al Glick owned that paint store. His partner Mr. Triolo passed away in the 1940's and Al purchased the other shares from Mr. Triolo's heirs. He kept it going with the help if my grandmother, great-uncle and my dad over the years. He either sold or closed it in 1973. I have some fun memories from that store including the paint shaker machine that was upstairs.

My grandfather passed away in 1978 and my dad in 2016 so I've messaged my aunt to see if she knows anything about who Frank Hubbard was. I'll update here if I get more info.
