A fabulous new one for the collection. Tetley's was a huge Leeds, West Yorkshire, based brewery employing about one thousand people at its height during the early sixties. In 1998 it was taken over by Carlsberg, and the actual brewery itself was closed in 2011.
I remember the ads for this particular brand during my teenage years in the 70's. Very macho, lots of male posturing and I suppose, borderline chauvinistic by today's standards, but of course back then, no one batted an eyelid, it was merely advertising a 'real man's' beer.
I think it's one of those pressed steel varieties of ashtray, and I bet it's had a hard life. However, considering its age, I think it's aged remarkably well. My washing and waxing has certainly brought out a little more of the 'wow' factor in it.
I'm really happy I found this, as it's certainly a snapshot of times past. I hope you guys like it as much as I do. :)
