This is an antique radio from the 1930's I believe. It was in an old mansion in his home town in Titusville, Pa next to the west end market. My dad's uncle bought the property and he gave dad the radio. When dad first tried using it the radio didn't work because of some burned out tubes, so my dad removed the tubes and bypassed the connections with some wiring. It worked! I think the last time we had it working it was in the 1970's. Not only that we managed to pick up a Cuban broadcast station from somewhere. I just wanted to share this with everyone. (if you're wondering about the pattern in the front glass of the radio, it is a reflection of the blinds in the window).
It IS a handsome old radio cabinet, looking to be in great shape. Your description of what your Dad did to it is slightly disturbing but whatever...it obviously didn't end in *fire*...?? ;-) :-) Do you know who made it or a model# or anything, and is there a chance you might add another pic or two of its backside/interior...??
It is a Philco, probably model 620, but Philco made lot of models that look
very similar.

If you decide to restore the radio , you can get all the information you need to do the job, at the Philco Phorum [the spelling is correct]

Looking at it makes me think of the Empire building....just its shape I guess...cool history..cool radio...
