A poor man's gas and oil sign. Probably wouldn't be poor if I didn't buy so much stuff. OK I am not really poor but I don't like to pay a lot for something that isn't part of my primary collection. At $15 I would call this affordable and it has the Mobil Pegasus which is my favorite gas/oil logo or symbol or whatever it is.
Not sure what this went to but seems to be a lid to a tin of some sort. I have another seen in Photo #4 which has a roll up device like a can of sardines but someone removed it by other means.
It is about a foot across and serves an important purpose filling up space on a wall.
two old oil cans made in to some thing . maybe for a wood stove damper . Cool any way .
Fold over an oil display rack???
Stuff
Thank you very much purvis. Currently I have no clue.
Thank you very much stuff. Hopefully someone knows.
How curious that the two you show seem to be so similar yet also so different. I think I'd tend to agree with purvis that they're *something(s)* somebody made from two empty oil cans, since the labels are joined top/bottom on the fadedmost, but top/top on this one. Also interesting that they both seem to have the same small 'U' shape notch in one edge, but differ in how their corners are clipped. Does the faded one have similarly folded/rolled edges on the back, and can you tell how the 'halves' are actually attached together?
Thank you very much AO. I am going to have to check on that tomorrow. If I recall it seems to be one piece.
I'm stumped. It's definitely cool, I love the Pegasus. There was this eating place in Dallas on Greenville Ave. called the filling station. It had tons of old service station memorablia. The highlight to me was this huge neon red pegasus. I don't know if it was an actual vintage item or a repro, but it would've looked great in your mancave.
I'm not saying that it is one...but.... I'm with Purvis.... I remember seeing something very similar made out of used tin cans hanging in my grandfathers garage used as a flue cover to cover the hole that was left when the stove was removed for the summer months. He had ornate ones that looked like pie plates in the house.
Thank you very much buckethead. I'll ask the seller next time I see him which should be in 2 weeks.
