My first Leica! Lol
Aquired by me last year, 2018
Serial number dates this cameras to 1937 (I believe.)
Just part of a find of a complete Leica Camera Kit, all in leather cases... in a leather camera bag.
The entire kit would've been tossed in the trash had I not checked that particular box before loading it along with all the other boxes heading to the dumpster. (An abandoned unit that contained around 30 boxes of files.) I can't remember why I checked that box, perhaps I was consolidating the files into other boxes. But there under all the files at the bottom of the box was a leather bag. This camera, lenses, light meter, flash unit and more inside...
Cool thing as well was the flash unit still had batteries in it... Date stamp of 1968. Curious as to why they hadn't leaked, I put a multimeter to them. They still had a charge after 54 years!
Batteries were Bright Star Flash Batteries. I contacted Bright Star, who no longer makes batteries, and let them know of my discovery about these batteries. At their company Presidents request I sent them to them and from what I've been told, those batteries are now on display somewhere.
BTW Bright Star has a pretty interesting history on its own.. it makes for a good read if you care to Google search it.
Anyway, a very cool find all round.
And a very lucky find on all accounts.
