Someone must have carved this maybe as a toy. I love that the back of the cart opens up. Perfect for my collection.

I Love This piece! I'm guessing this is what would be considered folkart.
I can't tell you who made this or when, but I can give you some history behind such things. Years ago when I was young and lived up north there was no TV and few people even had a radio. During the winter at night both men and women would go to the wood shed and find a stick of wood to carve and whittle. Some did things like this, some whittled duck decoys or other items. They were pretty crude but something to pass the time sitting by the fire to keep warm. I had the honor of being related to a lady named Louisa Fairfield who whittled miniatures of her entire family. Her creations are now in the Smithsonian Institute and last I knew on tour in Canada. Her son Charles made scale models of every house on main street as well as the town school house. When he died I was left one of the houses he built. Other family members got them and others are in the historical society. I will be donating mine to the local historical society. This is what people did before TV and radio. It is more or less a lost art and just folk lore now. You had to live it to appreciate it.
Thank you fhrjr2 for the background. Being Canadian gives me even more appreciation.
