This is a real photo postcard addressed to Sadie Garner from the first grade class at the Bladen School in Bladen Nebraska.
I found this and salvaged it from a garage of a sold house.

Poor little fella on front row....everybody else in their shoes and stockings, and him without any. Going to school barefooted was something that happened, sadly.
When I was in about 2nd grade, I recall a classmate coming to school with bare feet once. A kind teacher, Miss Hogue, would occasionally ask parents to bring our outgrown clothing and shoes to her so she could distribute them to needy families.
Funny, I still remember her name just because of her kind actions.

Oh, yes! I recall my dad sternly saying to stop scuffing our feet, we were wearing out our shoes.
And the shoes of my sister, who was born 2 years before I was, were saved for me. I didn’t like her old shoes! She got new ones and I got her old ones....some deal. }:^(
