Is this porcelian or is it enamel how can you tell. Also would be interested in the year and what it's value is. It is double sided with flange.

HI, NEAT SIGN!! IT'S PORCELAIN AND A REAL GOOD ONE. LOOKS LIKE ONE I USED TO OWN, I SOLD IT FOR 350.00 ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO, BUT I THINK THE PRICE HAS COME DOWN SOME SINCE EBAY STARTED. HOPE THIS HELPS.
I have seen this for 750 at an antique shop
We also have a sign, similar to the photo above, but has "AF" below the mobiloil , and ltd after the vacuum oil company name. Size is 11inches by 9 iches. Condition is quite fair, considering how long it was buried in the garden? Is it older than yor example? Also how much is it worth?
P.s. I forgot to say,our sign has a fixing hole at each corner.
Porcelain is glasslike surface(baked colored pigmented glass actually), very hard and cannot be easily scratched. Enamel signs are actually painted and will easily scratch to the original metal surface.
Gargoyle Mobil Oil most often seen in 1930's signage. Flange signs tend to be worth more than non-flange mainly because they were meant to be hung on the buildings and are of sizes more readily displayed in collections. Your sign is in pretty good condition, about an 7.5-8 out of 10. If the backside is as good as the side that is visible it is worth around $400 as average and up to $750 for a motivated retail market. It really depends on what your local market is like. Though some may point to eBay for pricing be warned that online prices fluctuate all the time and one week the sign might sell for $150 and the next $600.
The smaller 11x9 sign is of similar age, but if only single sided and a bit more damaged it may be worth about $200. The gargoyle should be well visible and all the lettering clearly visible too for that size. If it is single sided what you probably have is a pump plate that was used on an gas pump.
Love that Gargoyle signage!
