This was the book which really put Mailer on the map. The Naked and the Dead, 1948. The dust jacket has seen better days and there is some staining in parts of the book, but it's all there.
Not in the best condition, but it's a first edition Norman Mailer | ||

1948 Lieutenant Robert Hearn
An excellent read
Great score ho2, did not know Mailer was so young when he wrote this
I have to disagree partly. This may be a first edition by Allied Printing but it is not an actual first edition. The real thing has the Rinehart logo where this one has Allied printing.
i see that now fhrjr2. this one does have the $4 pricetag, but not the review by Rhineheart. what would this one be called then?
If you look at picture #3 it shows your answer. It is a discount book club edition. Allied Printing reproduced recently released books at a discount for book clubs. The number 1 after their logo is either the union council number or the union local number that printed it which is required by the union. The logo and the book club statement were required to alert people it isn't an original. The $4 price remains to show book club members how much discount they are getting.

Those are good prices Roycroft but they also have the Rinehart logo.
well ya thats what I was pointing out with out interjecting on the subject ....lol
and of coarse condiction condiction is most alway at the top of the list... '-)) and first edition is alway on top when bying a book to collect..other wise who care if you just want to read ...
and as you see fhrjr2, my books dont stop me from typo'sss lol later back to cleaning my lenes..
These book club editions that actually sell won't take you out for a big mac. I don't look at asking prices only sold for prices. It is amazing how many people offer these as original first editions.
ya fhrjr2 if people want to get in to books .. theres books on books on every subject and authers book binders ... paper used and made,... its just endless lol, I tell people who are intrested to pick this book up its cheap and toches all the basic things the need to know and grow...lol later
