Found an interesting bottle today, in Oxford, Ohio. The property is farmland that has supported at least two other homesteads in the last 200yrs., the second of which was a house of ill-repute. The 19th c. farmhouse’s owner and madame also allowed dumping on the land. I found this bottle near a dry streambed. Its instructions are a bit hard to make out, as the bottle has become a natural terrarium. However, it is clearly a medicine bottle, as there are extensive instructions for “classful” use. This was clearly an intoxicating agent, unless classily used. Can anyone make out the instructions? Or any ideas about the origins/medicinal product manufacturer? I’ll post a complete text of the instructions as I can make them out - hopefully, later today. Thank you!
I read it as instructions for some sort of syrup for a soft drink, maybe a root beer, just guessing.
"ADD CONTENTS AND 1 CUP OF SUGAR TO 1/2 GAL. ICED WATER"
"FOR GLASSFUL USE AMOUNT SHOWN BY EACH LINE. SUGAR TO TASTE"
Neat bottle!
