A powerful cold front has hit South Eastern Australia over the last couple of days, & as a result, we had an impressive snow fall today, with more expected tomorrow. Snow is something I've had little to no experience of, so it's been a special event.

Lovely fresh snowfall photos IronLace, very peaceful, I esp love number four looking out the window.

Many thanks, Newfld! Yes, it was so wonderfully quiet, that was the thing that struck me the most when I was watching the snow falling this morning. Living in Sydney my whole life, snow was not part of the equation. I'd only seen it once on a trip to New Zealand. So to now live somewhere that has such extremes of weather is a whole new experience to appreciate.

I grew up with snow and you are so right about the quiet. Back then I loved to go out for a walk when it snowed at night. So peaceful and quiet. I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy it.

Thanks also, fhjr2! The silence of snow is something magical, & yes, I've certainly enjoyed it today, & perhaps tomorrow as well...

Many thanks, vetraio50! We had some more snow today but it didn't settle...as for the cold, I was out in it for a while today during an excursion to a truffle farm in Hartley (other side of the Mountains). Watched in amazement as a trained truffle dog sniffed them out - I hardly noticed the freezing sleet & icy winds...& now have a stunning freshly dug truffle to enjoy! Cold climate living has it's rewards...

Wow! It looks like here in the winter (Sweden). Have never been to Australia but in my mind you always have summer :) :)

I was thinking the same thing Elisabethan. I live in Houston Texas and its going to be over 100 degrees today, again. Sometime we forget that everyone else is not being pounded with this heat. How I would love to dive into that ice right now but I would quickly want to return to this heat that I was born to love.

Ironlace....what a gorgeous place you live in and I know the inside of your home is also filled with some of the most beautiful glass that I have ever seen as well. You really have it good and thank you for sharing it all with us and for being so open with your life experiences. You have a beautiful life.

Yes TreasureTex I agree with you but the other way around, born in the north and being the daughter of Snow :) :)

Red your story and saw your profile photo. I like unusual and fancy! Why be ordinary when you can be brilliant :)

Hi Elisabethan, yes, it's usually warm here...I grew up in Sydney, where it never snows, & it never gets very cold, but now I live 90 minutes west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains where the climate is very different. It still gets very hot in the summer though, which is in December - February. But Sydney is unbearably humid in summertime, whereas the air is drier in the Mountains. This year is my first Mountains winter, & it's been magical. Apparently this much snow is a fairly rare occurrence here, according to a local friend, who said there hasn't been a snowfall that deep in 25 years! Just lucky, I guess... :-)

Many thanks, also, TreasureTex, that is so kind of you to say so...I'm living life to the full at last after many years of compromise & hard times. I've no regrets for what happened in the past, because it has helped me truly appreciate all that I have now. For me, that's the key to living well, & the balm to heal all wounds...

      Yes lucky indeed :)
The mountains sound beautiful! And dry air is what I am used to. You can more easily adapt with warmer clothes or so than if it is humid. Thanks for letting me understand more about Australia. It is a about 18 celcius here and cloudy with some short showers of rain, which is good since we have had a warm summer and therefore need more groundwater. Have a nice day!

Thanks again, Elisabethan! Yes, I find that being true to who I am has opened up a new world. That way, I can be my best self & give my best back to others as well.

We should all do that in all the ways it might mean to us. I try and hope I do. For me it means worrying less and not being very serious with all that I do, to try to let my hair down and feel the fun and see all the bright colors that are there. I never used to endulge in anything for my own sake, I think that is why enjoy jewelry now. Even the bright and bold :) I don't want to be quiet any more I want to live and see and enjoy and do that without being shye of what other might think. But I respect that people look differently on things. There is room for all of us as long as we care and respect others. Hope that makes sence.

It absolutely makes sense, & I feel quite the same in my own way. We all need space to grow & learn. Sometimes it takes a while, but when you get there at last, it's a good place to be, where ever it takes you...

Snow is a real novelty to me...I didn't go for a walk in it, though. It was early in the morning & I'm not much of a morning person. Just took some photos & enjoyed the scenery for a while before going back to bed... :-)

The truffle dog was amazing - the way she sniffed them out so quickly, & began to dig. Then the farmer took over, & carefully unearthed the truffle, while the dog was rewarded with getting to chase a ball. The whole thing was a charming game at the same time as being work.
It seems that dogs are now preferred as they don't eat the truffles, whereas pigs certainly will.
We were given a truffle & have already enjoyed some tonight for dinner. Just grated it & mixed with butter, which was served with linguine pasta & more shaved truffle on top - so simple but pure magic!
