Found this purse in grandparents house when cleaning it out- Found small note in the pocket that reads : "Pocketbook made by Laverne"
Made of Wool- and Lucite handles It is very well made but can still tell handmade- I know my grandmother worked for Vogue in her early years... Wanted to know any info on this purse?
What about the initials MW on outer cover as the note states? Would you please show that also?
Thanks so much- I have added the picture of the Initials
Making purses was very popular in the 60s and 70s. Every fabric store and craft store sold handles made of all sorts of materials such as wood, plastic and metal. The handles sometimes included a pattern and every major pattern company sold purse patterns.
Laverne might have made the purse without using a store-bought pattern. She my have made it to accommodate a Bible or some other book which would lie flat and not let the purse sag.
I agree with all that stated by Keramikos.
Research the family history to find out who had those initials. Maybe Loraine was a relative and you will find her name and the years in which both ladies lived.
Ancestry.com is the best thing ever when it comes to digging for data such as that.
Good luck!
