Front Side: "1838 W.J. DICKEY & SONS 1938 ONE CENTURY"
Back Side: "WILLIAM JAMES DICKEY 1814 FOUNDER 1896 JOHN S. CAMPBELL" Also has very small print on the left and right side of the back of this coin. It's very difficult to read.
Size: 3 inches in diameter
Material: maybe brass? or bronze?
Other: My husband found this in his fathers truck after their house caught fire over 30 years ago in Kettle Island, KY. His father passed away over 16 years ago and no one else knows anything about this coin.
This item is not a coin. It is a commemorative medallion forged in 1938 to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of W.J. Dickey & Sons, Inc., a Maryland based textile manufacturing company which was founded in Baltimore by my great-great grandfather, William James Dickey. The company, which was headquartered in Oella, Md., ceased operations in 1972. It is possible the gentleman, in whose truck the item was found, had at one time been an employee of the company. I personally own several of these medallions as well as a wooden 11 1/2" x 11 1/2" wall plaque on which a 7" diameter version of the medallion is mounted.
