I bought this bangle on an online auction as vintage bangle. Where I live bakelite jewelry is not known and therefore wouldn't say bakelite even if it was and therefore no one would benefit from trying to cheat you. It is just a lot of vintage plastic and you will have to figurer it out yourself. It didn't cost a lot so it was a chance on my part, can still wear it whatever it is. When it has now arrived I am quite puzzled by it. It has a sort of orange/mandarin color, weight is the same as my yellow bakelite bangle, same sound to it and yellow comes up when you rub some cromepolish on (I tryed it on in- and outside surface with same result). The swirls look ok in shape, I think. What makes me confused is the inside. It has a strange glittery inside that I have never seen and the color seem a bit bright? If I rub it very very hard I think there is that smell to it but not as strong as from the yellow one - or maybe it is my arm burning upp from rubbing the bangle?! :)

Thanks Broochman! I don't know if that is sure. It makes me wonder because the inside is something you always look at to make sure it has the right stripy type of pattern that you would see on a swirl bakelite bangle.... and why change the inside that is not visible when you wear it? The only effect I can see from the outside is maybe that it is still translucent like the yellow one but not as much...? I am glad you like it though, it has a cool color.

No matter what color the bakelite, if you rub it with a paper towel soaked in Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner, it will leave a nicotine-like brown stain. Other plastics will not stain like that.

Best test for authenticity, IMHO. Nice bangle - sure it isn't an earring from the HooToo tribe?

Thanks Pencilneckedgeek for your coment even if I don't get the last part of it :) - no it is not an earring.

Thanks Valentino! I also think that bangles can be nice even if it is not bakelite, but I don't want to say here that it is bakelite if I am not very close to sure. Are you saying that you think this is actually bakelite?
I haven't seen another bakelite bangle with this "glittery" inside and or with this color.

When testing with the polish it comes off yellow even when I test the inside of it.

Ok, thanks. Have you seen the glittersurface on the inside? Don't know if it shows well in photos. Have you seen that before on bakelite Val? :)

Thanks Valentino, they are very nice. But they don't have the inside that I am tolkning about. The goldish glittery inside that makes me question mine.

I love both of these and think they look great together! Nice close up shots and I love the swirls in them. I don't see the glitter you are talking about though. You never know, maybe someone that owned it before put glitter nail polish on it thinking it would show through, who knows?

Very nice.I just bought my daughter a coral color bangle that I think is made of glass but it looks a lot like yours that are a really nice color.I think you did real good buying these.

Thankyou Shareurpassion for nice coments and inputs! I thought about the nailpolish but I think it is not. With polish on it it comes of with the yellow as when I rub the rest of the bangle :)

Thankyou Jbingham! A glassbangle sounds beautiful and rare! This is not glass though. Thanks for nice coment and ideas. :)
