That's charred cotton in the 'spout' and a tiny hole in the curved arm above it. All brass - 7" tall. Grooves in the handle to allow for hands-free mounting onto.... ?? Two removable screws in the body. No petroleum smell, but a faint whiff of carbide perhaps? No maker marks.
I should know what this is called and used for, but I've got a brain cramp just now. Can anyone help?
I'm not sure what you consider a torch?? Some people call a lantern a torch others think along the lines of a cutting, welding or soldering torch. If you consider a lantern a torch then this might qualify. However other type torches require the fuel to be under pressure and I see no means or pressurizing this to atomize the fuel to burn.
I called it 'a torch' for lack of a better term. The cotton in the spout definitely is charred. The small hole is reminiscent of a carbide miner's lantern. Carbide provides it's own pressure from the chemical reaction. But I'm very willing to be corrected :^)
I can't say I recognize anything about what it is -- but it's sure COOL anyways...??
