IronLace
(928 items)
I've seen a lot of glass of all types over the years, but I've never seen anything quite like this vase. That's precisely why I had to have it!
Made from three (I think) layers of cased glass, yet it is incredibly fine & light. There's rainbow stripes, delicate touches of gold aventurine, & an outer casing of pale amber. A simple form accented by dainty (& extremely sharp) rustic thorns.
It measures 15.5 cm tall, 2 cm across the cut & polished top rim, & 6.5 cm across the base, which does not have a pontil mark.
Purchased from the UK, but could it be Bohemian?
that looks especially lovely my ironlace another fab piece !!!!!!!!

Beautiful piece. I assigned my vase with this decor (another shape) to Kralik. But I'm not sure at all. I have seen this decoration several times as a product of the French glassworks Clichy or Legras.

This decor is believed to be by Portieux Vallerysthal. You can see some information in this post about the decor. The fan vase I posted is white, but has been seen in the same decor, which I mention in my post.

Many thanks, MALKEY!
Many thanks, larksel - yes, it really caught my fancy when I saw it - I'd already bought something else & had to quickly add this one to my cart!
Thanks so much for the info & link, welzebub, much appreciated!
The fan vase is fascinating & I would love to get one, especially in this unusual decor.
It is certainly interesting to learn that this could be by Portieux Vallerysthal. I am reasonably familiar with their opaline or milk glass items, in particular the hand vases, & pressed glass novelties, but not so much their other products.
Excellent piece - I've been waiting to see this one since you posted the group shot. And thanks to welzebub for the ID.
Many thanks, artfoot, & yes, it's great to have an attribution on this very interesting piece!
I'm trying to find something similar from Portieux Vallerysthal - so far unsuccessfully.
I am basing the attribution on the fact that Jericho has seen the same decor on the fan vase shape I have in white. This decor is very scarce, and in 10+ years I have likely seen about a half a dozen examples. Most of those have been thorn vases. It is certainly possible it is someone else, but Jericho's claim of having seen one in the shape of my white vase is pretty convincing. The shape of my fan vase is also extremely scarce, and I have only seen it 2 or 3 times. Not a shape that was likely produced by more than one house. Only time will tell for sure.
