This is a favorite Egyptian souvenir of mine even though I’ve only worn it twice in all these years.
It really screams “Egypt” with the capelet style and and the blue glazed stone scarabs.
The beads are glass. The clasp is metal but probably nothing special.
It is 4” wide so it covers my shoulders.
I wore it with a strapless black evening dress to a ballroom dance function once and got lots of compliments including being greeted by someone who exclaimed “ Nefertiti” as he approached.....like he had not seen me in a long time (like many centuries)....it was so funny and memorable! (I hope I spelled that name right!)
I actually just learned something when I made these photos to post: on the back on one scarab is a tiny sticker with “120” written on it.
I’m guessing that was the desired price in Egyptian pounds (exchange rate back then made the Egyptian pound equal to about 33 cents US).
Even though I bought this at a very nice shop in my hotel, it seems that no prices are really fixed...you are expected to haggle over everything and come down to a price mutually satisfactory.
I was using up my pound notes (except for a couple I kept as souvenirs) on my last day there but don’t recall the price I paid but I know it was not 120 pounds!
Thank you for looking!
Comments welcome!
Valentino97, thank you!! I know your lovely jewelry items must have stories behind them also!
Thanks for the comment and love.
Anythingobscure, thanks for the love!
That is amazing. Imagine someone sitting there and making it. I'd loose my place on the third bead. Do you think it's handmade?
This is sweet ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Broochman, Thank you!
Gillian, To my knowledge, it is handmade. I know I would not be able to make it either!
Roycroftbooksfromme1, Thank you!
Yes I did
Beautiful!
Brunswick, thanks for the comment! I’ve seen some programs on tv about pyramids being found all over the planet - but I didn’t know about Mexico having the largest.
So many questions are unanswered about the reasons for and methods of pyramid construction.
And how ancient civilizations, which we have thought to be primitive and isolated, could have all come up with the idea and means of building pyramids.
It’s a fascinating topic.
Thank you for bringing that up!
Plein-air-painter, racer4four, Mrstyndall, Brunswick, Valentino97, Fortapache, Broochman....The Loves are much appreciated!
Brunswick- fascinating history but here’s what’s not known: how did ancient people all come up with the same idea to accomplish something? Whether it was time measurement or any other purpose, how did they all decide to make huge rectangles of stone, stack them in a certain configuration (all deciding a pyramid shape would fit the bill) on different continents all over Earth, when, by our modern day reasoning, we believe the ancient civilizations had no means of contact or communication with each other and only hand labor and tools made of stone or wood.
It’s a fascinating topic!
Will we ever know?
I guess I watch too much Ancient Aliens late at night!
Now THAT’S a showstopper!!! Love the colors and the beadwork. The scarabs are so beautiful to admire.
GlamorouslyRefinedFun, thank you! I’m so glad you like it. It’s an attention getter, for sure!
